it's a BS investigation that hasn't produced anything. Manafort was busted for things prior to meeting Trump.

Or so you thought....
Manafort bank fraud trial does have Trump campaign connection, Mueller's team says
quote:
Prosecutors for special counsel Robert Mueller intend to present evidence at the trial of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort that a banking executive allegedly helped Manafort obtain loans of approximately $16 million while the banker sought a role in the Trump campaign.

Manafort faces trial on bank fraud and other financial charges in the Eastern District of Virginia beginning July 25. Until now, there had been no indication that his role in the Trump campaign would become part of the trial, and he had asked the judge to keep details about his ties to President Donald Trump out of the trial.

Ooops.

Worth the read, regardless of which side of the Mueller investigation you agree with:
Will Trump Be Meeting With His Counterpart — Or His Handler?
. Subtitled "A plausible theory of mind-boggling collusion", author Jonathan Chait lays out a suggestive line of reasoning that the Trump-Russia relationship goes back much farther than most think -- possibly as far back as 1987, a rather important year for Trump.

The suppositions follow the following line:
quote:
The unfolding of the Russia scandal has been like walking into a dark cavern. Every step reveals that the cave runs deeper than we thought, and after each one, as we wonder how far it goes, our imaginations are circumscribed by the steps we have already taken. The cavern might go just a little farther, we presume, but probably not much farther. And since trying to discern the size and shape of the scandal is an exercise in uncertainty, we focus our attention on the most likely outcome, which is that the story goes a little deeper than what we have already discovered. Say, that Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort told their candidate about the meeting they held at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer after they were promised dirt on Hillary Clinton; and that Trump and Kushner have some shady Russian investments; and that some of Trump’s advisers made some promises about lifting sanctions.

But what if that’s wrong? What if we’re still standing closer to the mouth of the cave than the end?

Something to make you think, although not something to make you necessarily say, "this is what happened".

It's all very plausible, but not really probable, is it?

Well, that's what everyone seemed to think on the evening of 08Nov2016, right?

Okay, I really need someone to explain this one to me very slowly. Trump bashes Germany for buying all their oil from Russia, which in turns, props the Russian economy. Basically, he's telling them to look elsewhere for resources. This would cripple the one trick pony Russian economy. How exactly does this amount to Russia controlling our president?

Because he's going for headlines, not results. He knows full well Germany isn't going to stop buying Russian oil, but it makes him look more "anti-Russian" than he has for the last year-and-a-half (remember all those sanctions Congress legislated 18 months ago or soand Trump has failed to bother either endorsing or enforcing?).

That and he's doing what he can to rip up NATO, which has been a primary desire of Vlad and his cronies since before he even got "elected" (either of them).

So....how does this not play into advancing Russia's cause WRT the US and its allies?

It's called projection, Sunshine. Also, it's an example of Gaslighting, at least, sort of.

If nothing else, it's some perverse combination of a distraction ploy, and Pee Wee Hermanesque "I know you are, but what am I".

He's not trying to bolt from NATO. He rightfully wants to pay less at the expense of other members. He openly tried stealing Russia's customer. I don't think he said that knowing Germany would dump Russia.

Yeah, **** NATO off, he needs to tread carefully otherwise, say goodbye to all our military bases in NATO countries not to mention all the nukes we have in the NATO countries, that will make the world a safer place.

POLITICO:
quote:
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to break with NATO and conduct American security unilaterally — if allies do not rapidly meet higher military spending targets, NATO officials and diplomats said.

Officials inside the room for the formal session of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), the alliance’s top political decision-making body, said Trump arrived late — and apparently furious — and quickly hijacked a meeting that was already in progress with the presidents of Ukraine and Georgia. Taking the floor, Trump unleashed what one official called a “prolonged rant” on spending. He warned of “grave consequences” if allies did not quickly ramp up their spending, sending the gathering into chaos.

Trump also demanded that allies demonstrate how they would ramp up spending, and warned that the U.S. could "go our own way" if they did not meet his demands. While some officials, including French President Emmanuel Macron, said Trump never overtly threatened to abandon NATO, others said they interpreted it as a clear threat.

Note he didn't say anything about spending less for NATO if the other nations don't up their spending, just that the US "would go it's own way."

Some leaders are trying to put a positive spin by saying they don't feel threatened by his remarks, but that sure sounds like an ultimatum to me, and given his previous comments about equating NATO and NAFTA -- and you know how he feels about not only NAFTA but pretty much every trade agreement the US has entered into for the last 100 years, right?

And it doesn't sound to you like he's trying to pump more hydrogen into the reactor furnace?

Really?

From the article you linked to:

Asked if he would cancel them, Trump said, "Perhaps we'll talk about that," referring to Putin, a response that has only fueled the the growing uncertainty over the state of the alliance.

Saying perhaps well talk about it is not the same as saying he will cancel them if Putin asks. Get a grip already.

Mueller probe indicts 12 Russians with hacking of Democrats in 2016.

Takeaways:
  • The hackers sent, upon request, hacked information to a congressional candidate about his or her opponent.
  • They directly sent stolen information to a "then-registered state lobbyist" and "online source of political news."
  • Coordinated the timing and release of of information related to the Black Lives Matter movement with "a reporter."
  • They were in contact with someone regularly advising senior Trump campaign officials about the release of the information.
  • They discussed the timing of the release of hacked information to "heighten their impact" on the 2016 presidential election.

Better still, according to the indictments, after Trump egged on the Russians to go find "the 30,000 emails that are missing", later that day, the Russian hackers "attempted to spearfish for the first time" email accounts used by Hillary Clinton’s personal office. Around the same time, the hackers also targeted 76 email addresses used by Clinton campaign officials.

....but Trump says Russia had nothing to do with the 2016 election or his campaign....

And still no sign of collusion. Do you really think that the Russians were going to sit still until Trump jokingly told them to find the deleted emails?
