Unless I am seriously mistook, this is the Kerry VE benefit card that was done to raise money for his family after he passed away.

This was Sid's first appearance after leaving the WWF in 1992 IIRC.

It was...and to this day I scratch my head at why the grand kids of real estate magnate Fritz Von Erich needed a benefit.

I believe the justification was that Fritz had a good deal of personal wealth, but Kerry's personal finances were a mess, he carried no life insurance, not that it would have paid in the event of a suicide anyway, and the money was for his daughters. I get the point, however.

The Observer ran a story about this card stating that Kevin Von Erich had held up Global for some sort of personal payoff, claiming he had a transparenly fictitious indy booking in Birmingham the same night.

Fritz, in his final appearance at the Sportatorium or any wrestling event, seconded Kevin and Chris Adams for the main event.

Yes, Kerry was believed to be basically broke at this point. It sounded like his lawyer (the one representing Kerry in his drug case at the time of his death) was essentially donating time, as Kerry was unable to really pay him.

The Fritz thing is another story. Fritz is generally believed to have held a grudge against Kerry and Kevin over finances, as he thought they had blown their money on partying/drugs (Gary Hart and Ron Mullinax both have mentioned this). Both Kerry and Kevin apparently lost their houses when WCCW went south. So, Fritz may not have helped all that much. It has been reported here before that he cut Kerry's kids out of his will.

Gary Hart told a story in his book that dates to the very early 90s. Kevin was working some dates for Gary at the time but was also taking bookings elsewhere to make ends meet. Kevin was away from home on this particular day. Apparently, they were out of groceries at Kevin's house and Kevin was away working a booking somewhere. Kevin's wife called Gary Hart to ask for an advance on the money that Kevin would be making from bookings with Gary later on that week. Gary told her that it wasn't a problem and that she could come pick up the money from him at the office in Dallas. She explained to Gary that she didn't have a car or any way to get there to pick up the money. Gary told her not to worry, that he would come to her house and give her the money. When Gary got there, not only did he realize that they had no groceries in the house and no electricity, as it had been shut off. It made Gary pretty angry that Fritz was allowing Kevin and his grandchildren to live in those conditions. It has also been said that Kevin held a grudge against Fritz and claimed that Fritz never paid them appropriately for the houses they drew (Fritz supposedly told Mullinax this). It is possible that Fritz was angry with Kevin over these accusations and decided to let him suffer because of it.

Now, to Fritz's credit, it's been said that Fritz gave Kevin and his family a house to stay in near Fritz's house back in the 90s when Kevin was living in a rental house and didnt have any other place. So, he would have theoretically been allowed to live rent-free if that is true. Fritz also reportedly spoke to Baba at least once in the early 90s to see if Baba would give Kevin some dates in Japan. Of course, Fritz did also leave everything to Kevin when he died.

On the subject of the Kerry VE memorial card, it has essentially been confirmed that Kevin went to promoter Grey Pierson with a story about being booked in Birmingham, AL on that date and asked for a $1,000 payout to make up for the lost date. Of course, Kevin's average payout would have been much lower than $1,000 by 1993, so anyone would have known something was up. Pierson apparently did pay Kevin and paid him out of his pocket rather than out of the gate. Some of the wrestlers found out about it either at the show or later on and Kevin caught some heat for it.

James Beard explained the situation a few years back, though. The understanding is that Kevin reportedly didnt trust Pierson and was afraid Kerry's kids would never get the money from the gate (which was the purpose of the benefit). So, Kevin did make up the Birmingham booking to get the $1,000 payout from Pierson as a way to ensure that Kerry's kids got something from the benefit if Pierson decided to just pocket the money. So, it sounded like all of the $1,000 that Kevin got from Pierson was given to Kerry's kids and Pierson apparently did keep his word and give the money from the gate to Kerry's kids as well.
