http://culturecrossfire.com/etc/pastor-abuses-child/#.V9IEApgrLIU This week's top story covers a pastor who sexually abused several children - including attacking one girl on her father's grave. Then the mood is lightened by the story of a burglar who chose a "unique" outfit to rob a couple in, and we close up this week with a hotel homicide that left behind some bizarre clues in it's wake...

http://culturecrossfire.com/etc/skyjack-story-americas-first-murder-skies/

This week's article covers the story of America's first fatal skyjacking as a pilot is murdered 5,000 feet in the air. The aftermath and final twist will probably leave your blood boiling.

I'd like to know who really killed Kirk Robbin. I don't buy Buck Wing's written confession that Moe Howard happened to find at the last second.

This week's stories include a cold case that was solved after over two decades, plus a man covers up a murder in the most brutal way possible, and a woman finds out that her house had been previously used as a torture chamber. A young mother takes her son on a road trip. She ends up dead and he proves to be missing. Letters sent by the deceased only add to the mystery, along with several other clues that do not add up to a solution as to what truly happened to the child.

http://culturecrossfire.com/etc/crime-mystery/baekelands-murder/ My latest true crime article covers the story of a well off mother who engaged in incest with her son in an effort to "cure" his homosexual leanings. Both mother and son suffered from mental issues, and the whole sordid mess ended in bloodshed.

On May 5, 1977, police were called to the apartment that 20-year-old Gregory Canatis shared with his 41-year-old father, Theodore. They found the apartment empty and covered in blood. When they went to the kitchen, they found parts of a body in a skillet, hands in the freezer, and human muscles in the refrigerator. Hours later, they found Gregory outside and brought him to the police station. When he was asked why he ate his father, he said he didn’t want to waste “good meat.” When they asked him what the meat was like, he said that it was good and that it reminded him of steak. Canatis was diagnosed as a schizophrenic and committed to a psychiatric hospital without being tried for the murder. The murder charge was eventually dismissed in 1980. In 1995, he was released for a short time and held a job as a grocery bagger. When the district attorney heard that Canatis had been released, he threatened to charge him again with the murder, so Canatis returned to the hospital.

The full details are difficult to track down, but sometime in the 1970s, a troubled young man dedicated substantial time and ingenuity to build a helmet that would fire eight #00 shotgun shells, each containing eight .330″ (8.38 mm) lead balls, into his skull. The helmet was reinforced with a fibreglass and epoxy resin mixture. Wires, constructed from metal clothes hangers, led from an arc welder to nails set against the primers of the shotgun shells. When the arc welder was activated, the eight shotgun shells would fire simultaneously. The design even included the option to manually fire one of the shells if they all failed to fire electrically. The arrangement of the shotgun shells was designed to ensure complete destruction of the brain, and avoid the suffering of failed suicide attempts, that can sometimes occur with shotguns. Three shotgun shells were positioned in the front of the helmet to fire through the frontal lobes. Two were situated opposite of each other, diagonally on the sides of the head, to fire through the temporal lobes. One was located at the rear of the helmet to destroy the occipital lobe. Finally, two shotgun shells fired down from the top of the helmet, to penetrate the parietal lobes, down into the cerebellum and brainstem. The ingenious and terrible helmet functioned seamlessly just one single time, but that was all that was required.

Me, too. But I want to be a story on Investigative Discovery or a show of that ilk, complete with the actual scenes of my blood splattered all over the walls or soaked into a carpet in some cheap apartment building, and a lot of melodramatic music to set the tone. That way, my ancestors can enjoy my mysterious death in reruns for many generations to come. It makes for an entertaining show. Everyone can eat ice cream or potato chips while they watch.

This article offers a look at a NBC special which covered evidence that human history may be radically different than accepted science tells us. Fossils suggest man and dinosaurs walked alongside one another. An archaeologist discovered tools in Mexico that suggested man has been around far longer than we believe - she was blackballed for pushing her evidence. Plus fossils that may be the "missing link", incredible buildings in Egypt and Bolivia are built with methods that defy comprehension, ancient maps show accurate depictions of continents that had supposedly not even been yet discovered, among other theories and evidence.

https://owlcation.com/social-sciences/Murderous-Children-Jasmine-Richardson
When children murder, it's shocking. Even more shocking and unimaginable is when children murder their own parents. The youngest person ever charged with multiple counts of murder in Canada is Jasmine Richardson, who was 12 years old at the time of the crime. She and her then-23-year-old boyfriend, Jeremy Steinke, murdered not only her parents, Marc and Debra, but also her eight-year-old brother, Jacob, in cold blood.

On April 23rd, 2006, the bodies of Marc and Debra Richardson and their eight-year-old son were discovered in their home by a six-year-old boy who saw their bodies lying on the floor through a window. Marc and Debra's lifeless bodies were discovered lying on the ground on the first floor while little Jacob was found upstairs, lying on a bed. The police found that the couple's 12-year-old daughter, Jasmine Richardson, was missing from the home, and they feared that she had possibly been abducted. However, evidence started piling up quickly that ruled kidnapping out and pointed to her involvement in the murders.

Twenty-three-year-old Jeremy Steinke was a goth and self-proclaimed 300-year-old werewolf who purportedly met 12-year-old Jasmine Richardson at a punk rock concert in 2006. Jasmine immediately became enamored with him and the goth lifestyle. They were in love; while awaiting trial behind bars, Jeremy even proposed to Jasmine through an exchange of jailhouse letters. She accepted.

When Jasmine's family found out about her 23-year-old werewolf boyfriend, they became furious, grounding her and forbidding her from seeing him. For Jasmine and Jeremy this was reason enough for them to die.

Tim Hennis' case kicks the video off. Crazy story!

http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/18/us/death-row-stories-hennis/index.html
Courtroom experts call it a one-of-kind murder mystery that some people believe has yet to be completely solved. The remarkable story of Timothy Hennis and the stabbing deaths of a mother and two small girls is full of shocking legal twists and turns.
During the course of 21 years, Hennis underwent three trials for the same crimes in three courtrooms. The case puts constitutional questions about double jeopardy squarely under the spotlight.

http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Jay_Cook_and_Tanya_Van_Cuylenborg

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?230061-WA-Jay-Cook-20-amp-Tanya-Van-Cuylenborg-18-Skagit-County-24-Nov-1987

Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg went missing after what was supposed to be a day trip to Seattle. After not arriving, and not calling, Tanya was found partially clothed but raped and strangled. Police began to suspect that Jay killed Tanya... until Jay's lifeless body was found bound under a bridge. What made the case even CRAZIER was that sometime after the murders took place, the families of the victims started receiving cards in the mail from all over the US being taunted with the deaths of the two teens.
---

Tanya, 17, and Jay, 20, were running an errand for his father. Once they got off the ferry in Seattle that night the couple simply vanished. Scharf says, “They obviously were abducted in downtown Seattle and King County.”

Their bodies were found a few days later in two different counties. “Jay’s body was found below High Bridge which was on the Crescent Lake Road. Tanya was taken up to Skagit County, south of Alger, and she was shot and raped and left by the side of the Parson’s Creek Road,” recalls Det. Scharf.

---
According to this, the police originally believed the letters to have been written by someone with some connection to the crime (and it was determined they were all written by the same person). However, in 2010 they identified the writer as a man in his 70's with "severe mental issues" and after questioning him, they don't believe he had any involvement with the murders.

Shortly after being born in 1954 to Harald and Dagmar Alexander, Frank Alexander was proclaimed a prophet of God by his father, an extremely religious zealot. And as a prophet of God, every command that Frank made had to be obeyed by everyone in the family, which included his older sister Marina and his younger twin sisters, Sabine and Petra. As Frank became a teenager, he decided that having sex with females outside of the family would make him unclean. He announced he was only going to have sex with his sisters and mother, and they all agreed because it was their way of serving God. The police in Hamburg, Germany, where the family lived, heard about the rumors, but when an investigation was launched, the Alexanders moved to the Canary Islands for more privacy. While living there, the family kept to themselves, and the neighbors didn’t see much of them. The only thing they heard was an organ being played at all hours of the day. On December 22, 1970, a doctor came home to his villa and found Sabine, who was 15 at the time and worked there, making a meal in the kitchen. Sabine took him to the patio where Frank, now 16, and Harald were resting. Both were covered in a dark substance that the doctor thought was dirt. Upon seeing his daughter, Harald said, “Sabine, dear, we want you to know at once that Frank and I have just finished killing your mother and sisters.” Instead of being mortified, Sabine took her father’s bloodstained hand, put it to her cheek, and said, “I’m sure you’ve done what was necessary.” When Harald noticed that the doctor was there, he addressed him and again admitted that he and Frank killed his 39-year-old wife, 18-year-old Marina, and 15-year-old Petra. That’s when the doctor realized that what he thought was mud and dirt on the two men was actually blood. The doctor told the living family members to wait at the villa while he called the police. When officers arrived at the apartment, they came across a scene that would make most people’s nightmares look tame. Everything was covered in blood. There was blood on the ceiling, the walls, and the floor. In the middle of the living room were the bodies of Marina and Petra. Both had their breasts and genitals removed; they were found nailed to a wall. Marina had also been disemboweled. In the bedroom, Dagmar was also dead. Like her daughters, Dagmar’s breasts and genitals were cut off. Dagmar’s heart was also cut out. A cord was tied around it, and it was nailed to the wall.Frank and Harald were arrested, and at the police station, they freely talked about the bloodbath. Frank said that his mother was giving him a look he didn’t think was appropriate, so he beat her into unconsciousness with a clothes hanger. Understanding what was happening, Harald went to the organ and started playing while singing his praises to Jesus. Frank then went into the living room and beat Marina into unconsciousness and then did the same to Petra. Once they were unconscious, Frank started cutting up the bodies while his father continued to play the organ and sing. When Frank became tired he took his turn on the organ while Harald continued hacking up the bodies.Harald said that the women knew that the “hour of killing” could happen at any time. They also knew their role as a sacrifice in the “holy time,” and they had accepted this role because they were serving God. Neither men felt guilty for what they did because they sent the women to Heaven. Frank and Harald were found unfit to stand trial and were placed into an asylum. Sabine was sent to live in a convent where she presumably still lives.

http://www.whsv.com/content/news/35-years-since-Kelly-Doves-disappearance-428887673.html

Kelly Dove disappeared from her job at the old Imperial gas station on South Main Street, near Dukes Plaza, early on the morning of June 18, 1982. Kelly's three sisters all worked at the Imperial station, then the lone building on an isolated stretch of road about a mile south of the James Madison University campus. On Thursday night, June 17, Kelly agreed to trade with one of her sisters and work the overnight shift. After midnight on June 18, Kelly called Harrisonburg police to report that a man driving a silver Ford had been harassing her. In a second call, she reported the man had come in and had been dressed improperly. She'd received a threatening phone call, and when she called police a third time, just before 2:30 a.m., she sounded panicked. Please hurry, she said. He's back. Police arrived at the station just two minutes after Kelly's third call, but they found only her purse and a magazine she'd been reading undisturbed on the counter. Kelly has never been seen again. http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/d/dove_kelly.htmlhttp://www.whsv.com/home/headlines/Cold_Case_Investigation_in_Harrisonburg_Resurfaces_159151935.html

From examiner.com

The police in Harrisonburg have had a few suspects throughout the years, but never anything positive. They have looked at connections to other similar cases, some solved, some unsolved, with no resolution as to what happened to Kelly. The man who formerly investigated this case, Lt. Hubert B. Myers, told press with the Skyline Newspaper in 1991 that police had developed one main suspect in this case, but not enough evidence could be found to charge him. This suspect had also shown deception in a lie detector test administered to him by police in regards to the Kelly Bergh Dove disappearance. Myers told press at that time that despite an amassed 400 page file on the case and 300 suspect or witness interviews, no conclusion to this case has been in sight.

Myers also stated in 1991 that their main suspect in the case had admitted to police that he had exposed himself to a woman at this very same Imperial Gas Station in years past and that he had a history of making obscene, harassing phone calls to women. A search warrant was issued to explore the property where the man lived, but nothing in connection with Kelly's disappearance emerged.

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/38096102/ns/us_news-life/t/widow-lived-corpses-husband-twin/#.WcKjE8iGPIW

The 91-year-old widow lived by herself in a tumbledown house on a desolate country road. But she wasn't alone, not really, not as long as she could visit her husband and twin sister.
No matter they were already dead. Jean Stevens simply had their embalmed corpses dug up and stored them at her house — in the case of her late husband, for more than a decade — tending to the remains as best she could until police were finally tipped off last month.
Much to her dismay.
"Death is very hard for me to take," Stevens told an interviewer.
As state police finish their investigation into a singularly macabre case — no charges have been filed — Stevens wishes she could be reunited with James Stevens, her husband of nearly 60 years who died in 1999, and June Stevens, the twin who died last October. But their bodies are with the Bradford County coroner now, off-limits to the woman who loved them best.
...
Then, last year, June was diagnosed with cancer. She was in a lot of pain when Jean came to visit. The sisters shared a bed, and Jean rubbed her back. "I'm real glad you're here," June said.
On Oct. 3, June died. She was buried in her sister's backyard — but not for long.
"I think when you put them in the (ground), that's goodbye, goodbye," Stevens said. "In this way I could touch her and look at her and talk to her."
She kept her sister, who was dressed in her "best housecoat," on an old couch in a spare room off the bedroom. Jean sprayed her with expensive perfume that was June's favorite.
"I'd go in, and I'd talk, and I'd forget," Stevens said. "I put glasses on her. When I put the glasses on, it made all the difference in the world. I would fix her up. I'd fix her face up all the time."
She offered a similar rationale for keeping her husband on a couch in the detached garage. James, who had been laid to rest in a nearby cemetery, wore a dark suit, white shirt and blue knitted tie.
"I could see him, I could look at him, I could touch him. Now, some people have a terrible feeling, they say, 'Why do you want to look at a dead person? Oh my gracious,'" she said.
...
There was another reason that Stevens wanted them above ground.
She is severely claustrophobic and so was her sister; she was horrified that the bodies of her loved ones would spend eternity in a casket in the ground. "That's suffocation to me, even though you aren't breathing," she said.
So she said she had them dug up, both within days of burial.
She managed to escape detection for a long time. The neighbors who mowed her lawn and took her grocery shopping either didn't know or didn't tell. Otherwise forthcoming, Stevens is vague when asked about who exhumed the bodies and who knew of her odd living arrangement. She blames a relative of her late husband's for calling the authorities about the corpses.
"I think that is dirty, rotten," she said.

Tiffany Valiante was 18-years-old and had just graduated from Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall, she was a star athlete who had accepted a volleyball scholarship to Mercy College in New York. Tiffany had no history of mental illness, and was by all accounts excited to head to college at the end of the summer. She also had an intense fear of the dark, which was well known by her family, friends, and teammates.
On the night of July 12, 2015, Tiffany had been attending a graduation party for her cousin. The cousins lived across the street from each other, and Tiffany left the party on foot to return home at approximately 9:30pm. She then had a brief argument with her mother Diane in front of their home, because Diane had been told that evening by the mother of Tiffany’s best friend that Tiffany had made an $86 purchase on her friend’s debit card without permission. After, Diane went inside and Tiffany stayed out front. Minutes later when Diane went back outside, Tiffany was gone. Tiffany’s friends and family began searching for her.
Unfortunately, at 11:15pm that night, Tiffany was struck and killed by a train traveling 80mph in a secluded, wooded area approximately four miles from her home. Tiffany’s death was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner within days. This determination was largely based on testimony from the train conductor who said he observed Tiffany dive onto the tracks as the train was approaching, despite sounding the horn when he spotted her next to the tracks.
However, Tiffany’s family is fighting to have her manner of death changed to “undetermined” and her case reopened via a civil lawsuit. According to Tiffany’s family, as well as a former medical examiner who independently reviewed the case, there are too many pieces of evidence pointing away from the theory of suicide and a more thorough investigation should have been done.
According to investigators, after the argument with her mother, Tiffany discarded her cell phone near the end of the driveway and began walking. A deer camera on Tiffany’s property captured images of her walking away from her home. One image shows her wearing a white headband, beige slip-on shoes, white shorts, and a T-shirt (Note: I haven’t read anything that conclusively identifies the color of the shirt she was wearing that evening, but from the images it looks to be a darker color, possibly brown or red, and it does not appear to be black.).
Tracking dogs - which were used to track Tiffany’s scent several days after her death and after periods of rain - traced Tiffany’s scent from her home and along a nearly four-mile route, losing her scent several yards from where she was hit by the train. Tiffany’s head suffered the most damage from the train, so there was simply no way for the medical examiner to determine if there was any trauma to her head before she was hit by the train. A rape kit was not performed on Tiffany’s body. Toxicology results showed there were no drugs or alcohol in Tiffany’s system. According to the independent review of the autopsy report by a former medical examiner on behalf of the Valiante family, Tiffany’s autopsy report describes her wearing a dark blue, sleeveless shirt, and it did not mention any other clothing. According to Tiffany’s family, the white shorts she was wearing were never found.
Several weeks after her death, Tiffany’s shoes and headband were found by her mother, as her mother often walked the route Tiffany was said to have taken to get to the train tracks. The shoes and headband were in the woods (previously undetected by the tracking dogs) about one-mile from her home. This means Tiffany would’ve walked the remaining three miles to where she was struck barefooted. According to the family’s lawsuit, autopsy photos of the soles of Tiffany’s feet do not show any damage, such as abrasions, which would have been expected after walking three miles over train tracks and gravel and through the woods.
There are several other things the family notes, such as cell phone records indicate her cell phone was being used more than an hour after she supposedly discarded it at the end of her driveway. The route she is said to have taken is also entirely unlit, and there was almost no illumination from the moon that evening, yet Tiffany was terrified of the dark. There was also an axe found near the scene, as well as an encampment that showed signs of drug use, perhaps used by squatters or young people as a place to hang out. The train conductor’s statements are also inconsistent as to when he first spotted Tiffany and where she jumped out from, and he admits it was difficult to see.
However, Tiffany may not have been the completely happy, untroubled young woman she was perceived to be by her family. According to a friend, Tiffany had been unhappy and had showed her, on two different occasions, where she had self-harmed (supposedly cuts on her wrist and leg). Tiffany and her mother Diane had also been known to argue a lot, and Diane had once punched Tiffany in the arm, leaving a bruise, and prompting a call to child services by Tiffany’s teacher. Child services, after three visits to the home, recommended counseling, and Tiffany and Diane attended at least one counseling session together. Tiffany had also come out as a lesbian. She had recently had a seemingly amicable breakup with a girlfriend and begun dating a girl she met online.
Did the confrontation regarding the unauthorized charge on a friend’s debit card prompt Tiffany to commit suicide? Perhaps tension between Tiffany and Diane, as well as the pressure and fear of beginning college, all simply became too much for her to deal with?
Did someone abduct Tiffany up outside of her home, assault her, and then leave her in front of the train to destroy evidence? Or did Tiffany try to flee her captors, and being disoriented, accidentally run into the path of the oncoming train?
This website has a detailed article, the photo from the deer camera, and the entire civil complaint that was filed this past July, which includes the report by the medical examiner who independently reviewed the autopsy report, crime scene photos, and other evidence.

Her autopsy that showed the soles of her feet didn't look consistent with having walked through woods.
She was also missing shorts and in a different shirt.

As adult male passengers were unable to enter a lifeboat during the Titanic’s sinking, a father was forced to place his two boys into a boat, while he remained aboard the ship. The young boys could only speak French and had no belongings to call their own, so their identity was a mystery on the rescue ship, RMS Carpathia. Newspapers commented on the story of “the Two Waifs of the Sea” and published a photo of the boys to reach their family in France.

Meanwhile, a mother was desperately searching for her two boys, who had disappeared without a trace. The story of the two waifs soon reached her in Nice, France. After describing her children to child services, the boys were later identified as four-year-old Michel and two-year-old Edmond. The boys were abducted by their father, Michel Navratil, who was traveling aboard the ship under the pseudonym of “Mr. Hoffman” and was hoping to start a new life with his children in the US.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/may/19/woman-killed-husband-hid-body-never-caught-leigh-ann-sabine

When Leigh Ann Sabine passed away in 2016, her neighbors and friends remembered her as a quirky woman who loved attention. That’s why all those times she made references to killing her husband, they all thought she was joking. At least, until they found his decomposing body in the attic.John Sabine was last seen alive in 1997, shortly after the couple moved to the village of Beddau in Wales.

Part of the reason why his disappearance was never seriously investigated was because nobody really knew he was there in the first place. In the decades that followed, Leigh sometimes claimed that she was never married while other times saying she left her husband in New Zealand after he had a string of affairs. Leigh was quite daring, even proud of the murder. Leigh’s hairdresser recalled Leigh telling her that she would be famous after her death because of the “body in the bag.”

One friend said Sabine once told her bluntly that she killed her husband with a frog statue, but the friend dismissed it as one of Leigh’s stories. One time, Sabine even asked her neighbor, Michelle James, to help her carry John’s body from the garden shed to the attic. James believed the packaged body was an old medical skeleton from when Sabine trained as a nurse. It wasn’t until Leigh’s death that James went rummaging through the attic and unwrapped the body to find the mummified remains of John Sabine.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1078520/Woman-walks-market-holding-severed-head-man-tried-rape-her.html

Crowds in a busy market fled in terror as a woman walked among them holding aloft the severed head of a man who had attacked her.
Covered in blood, she held the head high like a trophy, said police - her way of showing that she had delivered her own kind of justice to her attacker.
The gruesome scene was played out in Makkapurva village, 170 miles south east of the Indian city of Lucknow, where, last night, the woman was being held behind bars.
Lucknow
The murder took place 100 miles from the Indian city of Lucknow
According to police officer Ram Bharose, the unnamed 35-year-old woman had sliced off the man's head with a sickle she had been using to cut grass near her village.
'She was getting grass for her cattle when the man came up from behind her and tried to sexually assault her,' said Mr Bharose.
'In a bid to save her dignity, she turned on him and during a struggle managed to chop off his head with the sickle.
'We have no doubts about her story because she had bite marks on her neck and cheek when the man tried to take advantage of her sexually.'
So determined was the woman to show that she had beaten off her attacker, who she claimed had been stalking her for three months, that she decided to take his head immediately to the local market.
'She put the head on parade,' said Mr Bharose. 'She walked right through all the crowds who were buying their vegetables, holding the head up high.
'All her clothes were covered in blood, but as far as she was concerned that didn't matter. She just wanted to make a point and she definitely succeeded in doing that.
'Everybody scattered. It was a very terrifying sight.' Mr Bharose said the woman had no regrets about her actions.
'We have to follow the letter of the law and although she says she acted in self defence she will probably be charged with culpable homicide,' said the police officer.

The FBI announced Thursday that the shooting of a Montana woman, who was found dead in the trunk of a car in Spokane last year, was a suicide.

Rita Maze, 47, of Great Falls, was found dead from a gunshot wound Sept. 6, 2016. She was found in the trunk of her black Pontiac Grand Prix, which was discovered in an industrial area near Spokane International Airport. Next to her body lay two spent shell casings and a handgun.

Before her body was discovered, Maze called police and family members claiming that a large man had struck her in the head and put her in her trunk. Her credit card also was used at least twice during the trip, in Kingston, Idaho, and Ritzville.

However, the FBI appeared to have cast doubt on the story from the mother and elementary-school cook, saying last September that they were not seeking any suspects.

Then on Thursday, the FBI released a statement saying that they had ruled Maze’s death a suicide.

“Based on the evidence gathered, analyzed and processed, we have determined Maze’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. We will not be releasing any more details,” wrote FBI spokeswoman Sandra Yi Barker of the FBI’s Salt Lake City division.

The suicide determination follows a bizarre series of calls in which Maze kept telling her husband and daughter details of her alleged abduction.

According to the Great Falls Tribune, Maze spoke with her family for 10 minutes before the phone went dead.

“I told her that I loved her,” Maze’s daughter, Rochelle, told the Great Falls Tribune last year. “That’s the last thing she heard.”

An officer called Rita Maze’s cellphone during the search. The officer reported that someone answered the phone followed by gunshots then silence.

Montana law enforcement put out a nationwide bulletin to find Maze’s car, which was discovered by a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy.

While two empty casings were found with Maze in her trunk, she suffered only one gunshot wound to the “chest and abdomen,” according to previous reports. The cause of death was the gunshot, but the manner of death as suicide was delayed by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Asked why Maze would take such elaborate steps to stage her own death, Barker, the FBI spokeswoman, said she had no idea.

“That’s the big mystery,” Barker said.

However, the family believes Maze was murdered. A day after her mother’s body was found, Rochelle Maze told The Spokesman-Review that her mother was hysterical during the time she spoke to the family over the phone.

When the Spokane County deputy found Rita Maze’s car, the keys were in the ignition and a purse was in the front seat. When the deputy saw blood on the ground, and a $20 bill nearby, he called for paramedics.

“She did not hit herself, stuff herself in the trunk and drive all the way to Spokane and shoot herself,” Rochelle Maze said last year. “I believe they shot her and left the gun and keys in there to make it look like she killed herself.”

Efforts to reach Rochelle Maze on Thursday were unsuccessful.

Always appreciate your contributions Arnold, but I do miss you posting these stories on your culture crossfire website as opposed to on this thread (but still introducing and linking them from here), easier to read that way.

With my wrestling projects, this is much easier to do than devote a few hours rewriting things.

Thanks for the love!

Case History
The victim was killed by a shotgun on Jim Sterchi Road in North Knox County in 1987. Authorities speculated at the time that the unidentified woman and two male accomplices were attempting to trick and rob the resident on Jim Sterchi Road by faking a fight outside her front door.

The woman kicked the door, awakening the resident and a visitor. The resident called police and fired one shot from a shotgun when the woman attempted to open a screen door.

The two men were caught. But they were unable to identify the woman. They said they had picked her up at a Greene County rest stop just before the shooting.
She remains unidentified.

I don't know that I have much to add, I only saw her skull while I was in a forensic anthropology training session at the University of Tennessee. She wasn't literally shot point-blank straight on, IIRC the entry wound was towards the left side of her head as if she had started to turn away from the shotgun. The skull was pretty well shattered, as you would expect from such a close-range shotgun wound. Aside from that, I don't know much more about the case than what has already been listed on the Doe Network. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I'd like to see this case solved and give her a name just as much as all of you.

Cold Case Files

Kelly Jane Evelyn COOK

Location : Standard, Alberta (AB)

Details : Kelly Jane Evelyn COOK, a 15 year-old female, lived with her parents in the village of Standard, Alberta, which is located 70 kilometers northeast of Calgary, Alberta.

On April 22, 1981, at 8:20 A.M., Kelly received a phone call from a man identifying himself as Bill CHRISTENSEN. The caller asked if she would babysit that evening. Kelly agreed and arrangements were made for the caller to pick up Kelly at her residence.

At 8:30 P.M., a full-sized North American car pulled up in front of the COOK’s residence. The unidentified male and Kelly were last seen departing the residence. Kelly was not seen alive again. Her body was discovered in the Chin Lake Reservoir (east of Lethbridge, Alberta) on June 28, 1981.

It is believed that the perpetrator of this crime had planned the abduction over a one or two-month period.

A one hundred thousand dollar reward ($100,000.00) from the Village of Standard is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of this crime.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard,_Alberta

" The case caught the public's attention like few other murder cases because it was so unusual, with the killer actually picking up his victim at her house while her mother watched through the window. Despite the publicity generated by this murder case, and a $100,000 reward offered by the Village of Standard for information leading to the arrest of Kelly's killer, the case currently remains unsolved."

listverse:
Kelly Jane Evelyn Cook, 15, provided babysitting services in her community of Standard, Alberta. On the morning of April 22, 1981, she received a call asking if she was available to babysit that evening. The caller gave his name as Bill Christiansen and said he would pick her up. As usual, Kelly promised her parents to call once she arrived at her babysitting job.
At 8:30 PM, the man arrived in what witnesses would later describe as a full-size North American car. Kelly was seen driving away from her residence with this man. She never called her parents.
On June 28, her body was found in the Chin Lake reservoir outside of Lethbridge, which is approximately 130 kilometers (80 mi) from Standard. She was fully clothed, her body tied to cinder blocks and tossed into the water.
Witnesses described the man as 30–45 years old in 1981, making him about 63–78 today. He was around 178 centimeters (5’10″) in height with a medium to heavy build and dark hair. There is currently a $120,000 reward being offered to anyone with information.
