How were those two areas different?

Was one better than the other?

Florida was a territory with its own stars. St. Louis was a one-city territory that featured hybrid matches between folks from most other territories.

I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that the very first Jack Brisco-Harley Race bout took place in St. Louis (May 1972). Jack was just coming on strong down south and Harley was still mainly in the midwest.

No question in my mind that St. Louis had the better announcer. Gordon Solie, for all his glibness, followed the prototype and cheered the faces and derided the heels. Larry Matysik was a first rate play by play guy, impartially calling the action and serving as a true wrestling historian (not just Florida history but overall).
